President Bola Tinubu has said Abuja is becoming safer and more livable, declaring that criminal hideouts are disappearing as a result of ongoing infrastructure and security improvements in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The President made the remark on Friday while inaugurating the Collector Road CN2, which links Arterial Road N16 and Arterial Road N20 in Katampe District, Abuja.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu said the newly completed road would improve connectivity between Katampe and Mabushi districts while easing transportation challenges for residents and businesses.
According to him, the project reflects the objectives of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and demonstrates that government can deliver tangible benefits to citizens.
“My fellow residents of Abuja, we did not stop at the road. We installed solar streetlights. Today, Katampe is safer at night. Abuja’s real life is coming back. Criminal hideouts are disappearing. That is what good governance delivers: security, mobility and dignity,” he said.
The President described the road as more than a physical infrastructure project, noting that it would reduce traffic congestion and improve access to homes, markets and commercial centres.
“Indeed, this road is a testament to the Renewed Hope Agenda. Nigeria is working again. The economy we met was gloomy. Today, you see transformation. A road like CN2 is more than concrete. It is hope,” he said.
Tinubu also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as his commitment to transforming Abuja into a modern capital city.
Recalling Wike’s appointment, the President said he was confident in the minister’s ability to deliver results based on his previous record in public office.
“Wike, you have not disappointed Nigerians. From abandoned roads to new boulevards, from water projects to judicial quarters, you work day and night. You do not give excuses. You give results,” he said.
The President urged residents to protect public infrastructure and fulfil their civic responsibilities by paying taxes and ground rents to support continued development across the FCT.
“Government cannot do it alone. Support your community. Protect this infrastructure. If you see destruction, report it. This road is yours. Guard it for your children,” he added.
Earlier, Wike described infrastructure as the foundation of development and urged residents to continue supporting government efforts through tax compliance and protection of public assets.
He thanked Tinubu and Shettima for providing the funding and leadership support needed to drive infrastructure projects across the capital city.
Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, also described the project as another milestone in the ongoing transformation of Abuja under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
