Brazil beat Haiti 3-0, with Cunha’s brace leading a commanding Seleção performance in a one-sided contest.
The Brazilians were the better side in the opening stages, dominating possession and creating the clearer chances as they looked to get a lead in the contest. Brazil thought they had taken the lead just minutes into the game through Raphinha, but the goal was immediately ruled out for offside.
The Brazilians took the lead later in the 23rd minute through Matheus Cunha, after sustained pressure from the Seleção finally broke Haiti’s defensive shape. The move came from quick combination play in the final third, with Brazil patiently working the ball into space before Cunha found the breakthrough to put his side ahead.
Brazil further extended their lead in the 36th minute once again through Matheus cunha, who raised the ball over the keeper and shot into the net after getting a incisive pass from Vinicius junior into the opponent’s box. This brace makes it 3 goals in 23 appearances for Matheus Cunha for Brazil’s senior national team. His first international goal came against Argentina in a World Cup qualifier in March 2025.
Brazil were dealt an injury scare just before halftime when Raphinha was forced off in the 45th minute and replaced by Rayan after appearing to pick up a knock, this resulted as a setback for Brazil as they lost a major attacking outlet down the right side.
The Seleção remained composed despite the enforced change, and their control of the game showed again just before the break as Vinícius Júnior netted in the 48th minute, making it 3-0.
Brazil now turn their attention to their next group fixture against Scotland on the 24th of June, looking to extend their strong start to the tournament.
