arsenal-beat-newcastle-1-0-to-go-top-of-premier-league

Arsenal moved three points clear at the top of the Premier League after Eberechi Eze’s first-half goal earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Newcastle United at Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners reclaimed first place after Manchester City had briefly overtaken them on goal difference following their midweek win over Burnley. Arsenal have played one game more than their title rivals.

Eze scored in the ninth minute, curling a precise strike into the top corner after receiving a short-corner pass from Kai Havertz.

Newcastle created chances through William Osula, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali but failed to convert. Substitute Yoane Wissa missed a late opportunity to equalise as Eddie Howe’s side suffered a fourth consecutive league defeat.

Arsenal were dealt injury concerns after both Havertz and Eze were forced off, adding to concerns ahead of next week’s Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid.

Despite recent back-to-back league defeats, Mikel Arteta’s side held firm to secure a potentially decisive result in the title race.
