The winning bid of $9,000,100 was placed during a weeklong auction hosted on eBay, which ended on Thursday. The identity of the bidder was not immediately disclosed.
Buffett, Curry and Curry’s wife, Ayesha Curry, are expected to meet the winner and up to seven guests on June 24 in Omaha, where Buffett’s conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway is headquartered.
Proceeds from the auction will be shared between the Glide Foundation and Eat. Learn. Play.. The organisations said Buffett plans to match the winning amount for each charity, increasing the total donation to about $27 million.
Glide, located in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district, provides support for people experiencing poverty, homelessness, and substance abuse.
Buffett has been a longtime supporter of the organisation, raising approximately $53.2 million for Glide through 21 charity lunch auctions held between 2000 and 2022.
He became involved with the nonprofit after his late first wife, Susan Buffett, volunteered there before her death in 2004.
The previous charity lunch auction in 2022 raised $19 million, which eBay described as the highest amount ever recorded for a charity auction on the platform.
Eat. Learn. Play., established by Stephen and Ayesha Curry, works to provide healthy meals, advance childhood literacy, and promote active lifestyles for children and families.
Stephen Curry plays for the Golden State Warriors and is a four-time National Basketball Association champion and two-time Most Valuable Player.
Ayesha Curry is widely known as an entrepreneur, cookbook author and advocate against childhood hunger.
Buffett, now 95, has long promoted partnerships between businesses and charitable organisations as a way to drive social change.
The veteran investor served as chief executive of Berkshire Hathaway for six decades and remains chairman of the company. According to Forbes, he plans to donate nearly all of his remaining fortune, estimated at $143.5 billion, to a charitable trust overseen by his three children.
