zulum-dissolves-borno-cabinet-ahead-of-2027-elections

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has dissolved the State Executive Council in a move seen as preparing the ground for the 2027 general elections.

The dissolution, which takes immediate effect, was announced in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani.

According to the directive, all commissioners are to hand over the administration of their ministries to Permanent Secretaries on or before April 3, 2026.

Government sources indicated that the decision was taken to allow cabinet members who may wish to contest elective positions to do so without conflict with their official responsibilities.
Although the number of commissioners intending to seek elective office was not disclosed, the development signals the start of political realignments in the state ahead of the next election cycle.

Zulum, while appreciating members of the dissolved council, commended their dedication and contributions to governance and development in Borno State.

He noted that their efforts have supported ongoing recovery and rebuilding initiatives in the state following years of insurgency.

The governor urged them to remain committed to the progress and stability of the state even as they step aside from their roles.

With the dissolution, Permanent Secretaries will oversee the ministries pending further decisions on the reconstitution of the cabinet.

Observers say the move could reshape the political landscape in Borno as aspirants begin to position themselves ahead of the elections.
