Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, has derided the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in 2023, Peter Obi, saying he was a person who wanted to be the President of Nigeria only on the Social Media.
He made the mockery on Thursday at the commissioning of newly constructed roads in Mabushi District as an offensive to Obi’s earlier castigation of the FCT Administration for allegedly abandoning public schools in the FCT.
He also accused Obi of under-developing Anambra State, when he was governor from 2006, saying instead he took the money and put it in a bank where he was the largest shareholder.
“There is one social media man who calls himself presidential candidate, he went to one school in FCT and said we did not provide toilets for them. Imagine! He plays politics with everything.
“When he was governor for eight years, did he develop the entire Anambra? Instead, he carried the state’s money and put in his bank.
“His name is Peter Obi. And that is why his successors have been struggling. I challenge him to come out publicly and compare what he did for eight years in Anambra with what we have done in the FCT in just two year.
“You run as president under a party and you cannot manage the party, ordinary party. It is Nigeria of over 200 million people that you want to manage? You know a good dancer from the first step. Ordinary party of how many people? Crisis.
“You can’t hold them, but you want to manage complex nation like Nigeria. It’s not available for people like you. You continue to contest as president in social media, but not as president of Nigeria,” Wike said.
The minister said he only came into office two years while Obi served as governor for eight years and challenged the later to compare how he fared as governor to what he has done as FCT Minister in two years.
“Can you really say you love this country? Can you really say you love Anambra? Certainly not. If I were you, I would be quiet. Why not be quiet? Enough is enough.
“You cannot be President of Nigeria only when you go to one IDP for a birthday party. Doing your birthday party in an IDP camp, does not make it to feel that you love Nigeria or you want to do anything for Nigeria.
“When you were a Governor, why didn’t you do your birthday party in an IDP camp? It is now you want to be president, every day, ‘I’m going to do my birthday with the less privilege’. Who will you deceive? Enough is enough,”he said.
Wike promised to show to Obi, next week, what the FCT Administration had been able to accomplish in the public schools just in two years, stressing everything must not be propaganda.
Similarly, the Senior Special Assistant to Wike, Lere Olayinka, has also knocked Obi for his remarks on the conditions of schools in the FCT.
In a statement, Olayinka mocked Obi to rescue himself from political oblivion instead of gallivanting for media attention, in the process turning himself into critics of everything, including the most ridiculous.
