Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has arrived in London to accompany the body of former President Muhammadu Buhari back to Nigeria, following the statesman’s passing on Sunday.
Shettima was joined by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and other members of the presidential delegation on the solemn mission.
Former President Buhari reportedly died in London at approximately 4:30 pm on Sunday after a prolonged illness.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who expressed deep sorrow over the loss, has spoken personally with the late president’s widow, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, offering his heartfelt condolences. In honor of Buhari’s legacy, Tinubu directed that national flags be flown at half-staff.
Muhammadu Buhari, was a towering figure in Nigerian politics. He was first elected president in 2015 and re-elected in 2019 after previously serving as Nigeria’s military head of state from January 1984 to August 1985.
