Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has said it would be nearly impossible for any Nigerian governor to oppose President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, citing the president’s unprecedented support for sub-national governments.
Speaking on Monday at the opening of a two-day interactive session organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF) in Kaduna, Sani said Tinubu’s inclusive leadership has earned him loyalty across the states.
“Moreover, no president in Nigeria’s history has supported governors and sub-national governments the way President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently doing,” the governor said.
“As a result, it is unlikely that any governor in Nigeria would go against the president.”
The event, held at the historic Arewa House, was themed ‘Assessing Electoral Promises: Fostering Government-Citizen Engagement for National Unity’. It brought together policymakers, civil society leaders and community representatives to review the performance of elected officials against their campaign promises.
Governor Sani also noted the federal government’s ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity in the north through dialogue, stating that the administration has adopted a novel strategy.
“For the first time in Nigeria’s history, the government is engaging with non-state actors to discuss progress and assess the situation in northern Nigeria,” he said.
“This unprecedented approach reflects a shift in how national issues are being addressed.”
President Tinubu was represented at the event by Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, and Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
Founded in 2009, the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation is a non-political, non-religious body established to preserve the legacy of Sir Ahmadu Bello, the late Premier of Northern Nigeria. The foundation promotes dialogue and development across the region.
