President Bola Tinubu has declared that his administration will intensify efforts to tackle insecurity across the country, stressing that citizens’ safety remains a top priority.

He also disclosed that Nigeria is engaging international partners, including the United Kingdom and France, for support and military equipment to strengthen security operations.

The President made the remarks on Sunday while hosting Vice President Kashim Shettima and 23 governors at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

Tinubu said discussions held during his recent visit to the United Kingdom focused significantly on security cooperation and support for modern security interventions.

“I am making all the efforts to ensure that we collectively share the joy of our victory over tyranny. Insecurity is an enemy of development, progress, and prosperity,” he said.

He added that he recently held a detailed discussion with French President Emmanuel Macron on collaboration for security equipment and support.

“One of the major discussions in the United Kingdom was on equipment and support. I can report to you that I had a lengthy discussion with President Emmanuel Macron. They are collaborating with us, and I am also making efforts to contact other nations,” Tinubu stated.

The President and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, had returned on Friday from a three-day state visit to the United Kingdom, where they were hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla. Tinubu also met with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer during the visit.

Speaking further, Tinubu stressed the need for all levels of government to prioritise the welfare of vulnerable citizens, warning that the Middle East crisis could worsen inflation and reduce purchasing power.

“We should care more for the vulnerable. The Middle East crisis will spike inflation and affect purchasing power. We must be ready to support our people,” he said.

He urged state governors to remain committed to policies and programmes that directly impact citizens’ livelihoods and to support efforts to combat insecurity.

Tinubu also commended Vice President Shettima for his condolence visit to Borno State, assuring residents of enhanced protection through the deployment of modern security technologies.

Earlier, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, commended the President’s leadership and his administration’s interventions in the states.

He also congratulated Tinubu on the successful state visit to the United Kingdom, describing it as significant in strengthening bilateral relations and investment opportunities.

AbdulRazaq noted that discussions on state police are ongoing, with the Governors’ Forum set to present proposals to the National Assembly to establish a legal framework.
