Security operatives and local vigilantes in Kwara State have reportedly rescued three of the eight victims abducted by suspected bandits at the ECWA Church in Omugo, Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.

The victims were among those kidnapped last month when gunmen attacked the church during a service and abducted about eight worshippers.

Since the incident, security operatives and local vigilantes have been working round the clock to secure the release of the victims.

Their efforts yielded results over the weekend, as three of the abducted church members were rescued unharmed.

In a statement issued in Ilorin, the state capital, and signed by the Commissioner for Communications, Mrs. Bolanle Olukoju, the government commended the gallantry of security agencies and local vigilantes for the rescue.

The government also tasked security forces and local vigilantes to ensure that those responsible for the attack on the ECWA Church in Omugo are apprehended.

It further praised the proactive response of security forces, forest guards, and vigilantes, noting that their ongoing operations had led to significant progress in curbing criminal activities in the area.

The government condemned the targeting of religious centres, describing it as unacceptable under any circumstance.

“While commending the immediate response of the security forces and other stakeholders, we task them to ensure that the ongoing manhunt leads to the rescue of the remaining victims and the arrest of the perpetrators,” the statement said.

It also urged continued collaboration among security agencies, local vigilantes, forest guards, and community members to tackle insecurity in the area.

The state government reaffirmed its commitment to working with all stakeholders to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.
