psgs-achraf-hakimi-to-face-trial-over-rape-allegation

Achraf Hakimi has said he is prepared to face trial after a rape allegation was made against him, insisting he will await the legal process so the truth can emerge publicly.

The Moroccan defender who plays for Paris Saint-Germain is accused by a woman of raping her at his home in the French capital in 2023 when she was aged 24. Hakimi has denied the allegation.

The public prosecutor’s office in Nanterre opened a preliminary investigation into the case in March 2023.

Reacting to reports that the matter will proceed to court, Hakimi wrote on social media that he intends to contest the allegation and prove his innocence.

“Today, a rape accusation is enough to justify a trial,” he posted on X.
“This is as unjust to the innocent as it is to the genuine victims. I calmly await this trial, which will allow the truth to come out publicly.”

No date has yet been fixed for the trial.

Hakimi’s lawyer also confirmed that legal proceedings will move forward, stating that the player is ready to defend himself in court.

“A trial has been ordered,” the lawyer said in a statement, adding that “it is with determination and resolve that we await this trial so that justice may be served.”

BBC Sport said it had contacted the Nanterre prosecutor’s office for comment.

Despite the legal proceedings, Hakimi was included in PSG’s squad for their UEFA Champions League knockout round play-off second-leg match against AS Monaco on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old defender, who was born in Spain but represents Morocco internationally, has made 194 appearances for PSG. He helped the club win both the Champions League and Ligue 1 titles last season.

His performances were also recognised at the The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony held in Paris on Monday, where he was named in the FIFPRO men’s world team of the year.

Hakimi is also expected to feature for Morocco at the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the North African side will face Scotland national football team, Haiti national football team and Brazil national football team in the group stage.
