The Osun State Government has launched Imole Wi-Fi, a free public internet service designed to provide residents, students, businesses, and communities with access to fast and reliable internet across the state.
According to a statement issued on Monday, the initiative was introduced by the Innovation, Science, Technology, and Digital Economy Office under the Office of the Special Adviser. The project is aimed at driving digital inclusion, supporting education, boosting economic opportunities, and enhancing community development in Osun State.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, while unveiling the initiative, described Imole Wi-Fi as a transformative step towards bridging the digital divide in the state. “Imole Wi-Fi is a gateway to opportunity. With this public digital infrastructure, we are cutting barriers, connecting people, and driving growth across every sector of Osun’s economy,” he said.
Special Adviser on Innovation, Science, Technology, and Digital Economy, Mr. Azeez Badmus, also highlighted the state’s commitment to further expansion. “This is just the first step. As we expand Imole Wi-Fi, more government services and sector-specific tools will follow, ensuring that every resident benefits from Osun’s digital future,” he stated.
The free Wi-Fi service is currently available at key locations, including the Osun State Library, Alphastart Hub, Osun Mall, Salvation Army Middle School, Osogbo Grammar School, and the Ministry of Innovation, Science, Technology, and Digital Economy sites.
According to the press release signed by Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, Commissioner for Information & Enlightenment, the project provides several benefits across different sectors. Students will be able to access online learning platforms, research materials, and virtual classrooms. Job seekers and small businesses can leverage the internet to apply for opportunities and conduct business. Hospitals and clinics may utilise telemedicine and digital records, while farmers will have access to weather forecasts, pricing updates, and agricultural insights. Communities are also expected to experience enhanced security through connectivity supporting emergency response and safety systems.
The Osun State Government says the Imole Wi-Fi initiative will continue to expand to more locations in the coming months, with the goal of boosting education, employment, healthcare, and community safety while positioning the state as a hub for digital innovation.
