A political organisation in Ondo State, Progressives Network for Tinubu (PNT), on Monday promised to garner one million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to win the 2027 presidential election.
The Director General of the group, Olumide Obadele, while announcing its debut at a press conference held at the NUJ Press Centre in Akure, the state capital said it has inaugurated coordinators in each of the 18 local governments and 203 political wards to mobilise support for Tinubu in the state.
Notably, the group emphasised that there is no conflict of interest between the state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and the various APC support groups in the state.
They also clarified that there is no battle of superiority between the state governor and the Minister of Interior, Olubumi Tunji-Ojo, who has been supportive of the group.
Particularly , the group expressed its commitment to supporting President Tinubu’s re-election bid, citing his leadership capacity and policy decisions as reasons for their support.
“Our conviction to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for a second term in office stemmed from his ability to bring Nigeria to a turning point in just 27 months in the saddle of leadership. His audacity to remove fuel subsidy and courage to float the naira among several other major policy decisions were characteristic of a leader with a clear definition of where he is going and knowing the path that leads there.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not a trial and error leader, he knows his onions. As it stands today, we can say that a prosperous Nigeria that we have dreamt about for many years is no longer a dream as we have found in him a leader with the required capacity to take us to the Dreamland.”
The group also pledged to work with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other sister support groups to ensure that the party retains its dominance in the South West region.
“As a group, our approach embraces people from other parties and even those without any party affiliation but with strong belief and conviction in the re-election of President Tinubu. This is what informed the choice of Comrade Alfred Akinuli, a Governorship candidate of Action Alliance in the 2024 Governorship election in Ondo State and the current chairman of the party as the Deputy Director General of the group
“Our group is a blend of old and new politicians, regular and unconventional, veterans and newbies. This we believe will make a winning combination and serve as an impetus to reach our goals and attain our target. Our vision is clear and we are not in competition with anyone or groups. With the passage of time our work will speak for us as we traverse the length and breath of Ondo State preaching only one gospel-the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu”, he stressed.
According to Obadale, the group’s vision is clear, and they are not in competition with anyone or groups. They plan to occupy the media space and keep the political climate in Ondo State busy, leveraging modern technologies to reach their target audience.
He further stressed that the group is a blend of old and new politicians, regular and unconventional, veterans and newbies, which he believes will make a winning combination and serve as an impetus to reach their goals and attain their target.
“In 2023, Ondo State gave President Tinubu 67% of the total votes cast, which translated to the highest in the entire South West region. The Progressives Network for Tinubu has set a target of not less than 80% of the total votes in the state for the 2027 presidential election.
“It is imperative for me to specially acknowledge the strategic and immeasurable support the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo has given to this support group. His involvement at every stage is unquantifiable and we are greatly indebted to him.”
