Oleksandr Usyk further cemented his legacy as one of boxing’s greats by stopping Daniel Dubois in the fifth round at Wembley Stadium, becoming a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion.
In front of a crowd of 90,000 fans, the Ukrainian delivered a masterful performance to dash Dubois’ hopes of becoming the first Briton to unify the heavyweight division in the four-belt era.
Usyk, 38, knocked Dubois down twice in the fifth round. The Londoner was unable to beat the count after the second knockdown, resulting in a stoppage. This victory extended Usyk’s perfect professional record to 24 wins and marked his second stoppage win over Dubois, who he also stopped in 2023.
In a post-fight interview with DAZN, Usyk said, “I’m sorry [Dubois], it’s sport. My people wanted this win. Nothing is next. It’s enough. Next, I want to rest. My family, my wife, my children, I want to rest now. Two or three months, I want to just rest.”
Dubois, who had successfully defended his IBF title against Anthony Joshua in September, suffered his third professional defeat in 25 fights, with all three losses ending inside the distance.
Usyk reclaimed the IBF belt, which was stripped from him weeks after he unified the division last year, adding it to his WBA (Super), WBO, and WBC titles.
Reflecting on the fight, Dubois told DAZN, “I have to commend him on the performance, I gave everything I had. Take no credit away from that man, I’ll be back. I was just fighting, trying to pick up round by round. It is what it is.”
