The Nigeria Football Federation has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for fulfilling pledges made to Super Eagles players and officials following their runner up finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

In a press release issued by the NFF Communications Department, the federation expressed gratitude to the President and the Federal Government for the delivery of houses, national honours and plots of land promised to the team.

“The Nigeria Football Federation has expressed tremendous gratitude to the President and Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, and the Federal Government as a whole for the fulfilment of pledges of houses, national honours and plots of lands made to players and officials of the Super Eagles for their runner up achievement at the 2023 AFCON,” the statement said.

Title documents for the houses, certificates of national honours and confirmation of land allocations were presented at a ceremony attended by senior government and sports officials, including National Sports Commission Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko, NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau and representatives of the Presidency and National Assembly.

NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau said the fulfilment of the promises had a direct impact on the team’s performance at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where Nigeria opened its campaign with a 2 to 1 win over Tanzania.

“We cannot thank His Excellency, Mr. President enough for fulfilment of the promises of national honours and houses for the players and officials. We also thank the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, the Director General of the NSC, as well as members of the Federal Executive Council for their efforts in this regard,” Gusau said.

He added, “The presentation of the title documents and certificates was a positive development that has lifted the spirit of players and officials and we expect even better performances in subsequent matches. The team has picked the first three points, which is important, but we must equally be at our best against Tunisia so that we can pick the Round of 16 ticket before the last round of matches in the group.”

Nigeria’s victory over Tanzania came courtesy of goals from Semi Ajayi and Ademola Lookman at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, giving the Super Eagles a strong start to their AFCON campaign.
