kwara-killings-show-security-collapse-under-tinubu,-says-adc

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has described the reported killing of about 170 people in Kwara State as evidence of a total collapse of security in Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party questioned the effectiveness of the Federal Government’s security policies, including the declared state of emergency on security and the promised mass recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force.

The ADC said the scale and frequency of killings across the country show that government measures have failed, arguing that the current approach is merely redistributing terrorism rather than eliminating it.

“The ADC condemns in the strongest possible terms the gruesome killing of about 170 innocent Nigerians in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State,” the statement said, describing the incident as one of the worst atrocities in recent times.

According to the party, the tragedy highlights deep structural failures in Nigeria’s internal security architecture, including intelligence gathering, border control, inter-agency coordination and emergency response.

The ADC also raised concerns that terrorist elements allegedly dispersed by foreign military actions may be relocating to other states due to weak internal security coordination.

It further queried what had become of the President’s declaration of a security emergency announced in November 2025 and the approved recruitment of thousands of police officers, asking whether the exercise had been implemented or abandoned.

“Nigerians are entitled to know what has become of that promise. If such measures were genuinely implemented, vulnerable rural communities should not be left exposed to mass slaughter,” the party said.

The ADC accused the Federal Government of resorting to condolences and condemnations after each tragedy, insisting that a government that cannot protect lives has failed in its most basic responsibility.

The party called on the Federal Government to be transparent about the true state of national security, account for promised security recruitment, and outline concrete steps to prevent the spread of terrorist activities across states.
