Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has formally announced the burial arrangements for Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, in a hospital in London.
Speaking during a press briefing in Katsina, Governor Radda revealed that after consultations with the late President’s family and close associates, it was agreed that his remains will be flown to Katsina on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, by 12 noon. The burial is scheduled to take place the same day at 2:00 p.m. in Daura, the hometown of the former President.
Governor Radda conveyed his deepest condolences to the Buhari family and the entire nation, describing the late President as a national icon whose legacy would endure for generations.
“We pray Almighty Allah to grant his soul eternal rest and reward him with Aljannatul Firdaus,” the Governor said. “We also condole His Excellency, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Bola Ahmed Tinubu, over the passing of his predecessor. May Allah give us the strength to bear this great loss.”
Governor Radda noted that the Katsina State Government is working closely with federal authorities and the Buhari family to ensure a dignified and befitting farewell for the late elder statesman.
President Muhammadu Buhari served as Nigeria’s Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later as a democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023.
