gunmen-kill-three-in-renewed-attack-on-benues-yelwata-community

Tension has once again engulfed Yelwata community in Benue State following a fresh gunmen attack in the early hours of Monday, leaving three people dead.

Eyewitnesses said the incident, which occurred barely two months after a major assault that claimed hundreds of lives and displaced thousands, triggered an angry protest by local women. The demonstrators took to the streets demanding that soldiers stationed in the area be withdrawn to their barracks, alleging inadequate protection. Some of them noted that their safety is in question, calling on authorities to provide immediate transportation for them to Makurdi, the state capital.

According to residents, the latest attack left several others injured, with some still unaccounted for. Joseph Joo, head of media and publicity for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the area, identified the deceased in a social media post.

The community has renewed its appeal to the government and security agencies to take decisive measures to halt the recurring violence, warning that residents are living in constant fear.
