elon-musk-launches-new-political-party-after-dramatic-break-with-trump

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has announced the creation of a new political party, the America Party, weeks after a high-profile and bitter fallout with US President Donald Trump.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO unveiled the move on his social media platform, X, positioning the new party as a challenge to the entrenched Republican-Democrat two-party dominance in American politics.

“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” Musk posted on Saturday, referencing an earlier poll he conducted on X.
“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”

Despite the bold declaration, as of Saturday, no formal documentation for the America Party had appeared in records from the Federal Election Commission (FEC), raising questions about the party’s legal status and organizational structure. Musk, who is ineligible to run for US president because he was born outside the country, has not named a potential leader or candidate for the party.

The announcement follows Musk’s abrupt departure from Trump’s post-election administration earlier this year, where he had been appointed head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The position was part of Trump’s effort to cut federal spending and streamline the government. Musk’s exit in May triggered a very public feud, with both men launching personal and political attacks across their respective platforms.

The falling-out intensified after Trump’s signature tax and spending legislation—dubbed by him the “big, beautiful bill”—was signed into law this week. Musk blasted the bill, which is expected to add over $3 trillion to the national deficit in the next decade, for ignoring investments in green energy and electric vehicles, including those produced by his company Tesla.

“Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“Without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa.”

Trump also threatened to use DOGE to investigate federal subsidies received by Musk’s various ventures, including Tesla, SpaceX, and Starlink, which provide services to US and European defense sectors.

Until their rift, Musk had been one of Trump’s most visible and generous supporters, contributing $250 million to Trump’s re-election campaign and even appearing at rallies with his young son. He had been seen as a symbol of the administration’s embrace of tech entrepreneurship and business innovation.
