dino-melaye-resigns-from-pdp,-criticises-partys-leadership-failings

Former Kogi West senator Dino Melaye has submitted his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing the party of failing to provide “meaningful political direction” for Nigeria.

In a resignation letter addressed to PDP leadership on Thursday, Melaye announced his withdrawal from the party “at all levels of involvement,” effective immediately. The letter  detailed his decision as the result of “deep reflection on the current state of the party.”

“I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at all levels of involvement,” Melaye wrote. “This decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation.”

Melaye, who represented Kogi West in the National Assembly from 2015 to 2023, added “Having carefully reflected on the state of the party, I can no longer in good conscience participate in the activities of the party or lend my support to her agenda.”

He thanked the PDP for the opportunity to serve under its platform but stated that he could not, in good conscience, continue his membership.

“Please consider this as my formal withdrawal from the party and all its activities at all levels with immediate effect,” he concluded.

Melaye’s departure adds to recent turbulence within the PDP, which has been grappling with internal disputes and questions over its preparedness for the 2027 general elections.
