coalition-of-strange-bedfellows:-baba-yusuf-warns-against-adc-led-opposition-coalition-ahead-of-2027-elections

Policy strategist Baba Yusuf has cautioned Nigerians against being swept up by the growing excitement around the recently formed political coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), warning that the alliance appears more reactive than visionary.

In an interview with ARISE News on Friday, Yusuf expressed concern over the credibility and cohesion of the figures driving the movement, describing them as “strange bedfellows” with conflicting interests and questionable motives.

While acknowledging the presence of respected figures within the coalition, Yusuf emphasised that the emerging alliance lacks strategic depth and appears focused solely on removing President Bola Tinubu from office.

“If that is the objective,” Yusuf said, “it should be dead on arrival.” He insisted that Nigerians want to see thoughtful, patriotic alternatives—not revenge politics.

“We should start seeing disposition in action, not sentiments.”

Turning his attention to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Yusuf said the party is rapidly becoming a “legacy party” as key players leave or lose interest. He predicted further defections among governors, including what he described as a coming “dramatic” exit by one of the party’s most vocal figures.

He attributed part of this political unraveling to the calculated strategies of former Rivers Governor and current FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who Yusuf believes continues to exert significant influence over the PDP’s direction.

Criticizing the broader opposition movement, Yusuf described many of its leaders as hypocrites who once held power and contributed to Nigeria’s current challenges, including economic decline and deep social divisions, yet now present themselves as reformers.

“The level of hypocrisy has become so infantile,” he said, warning Nigerians to “shine their eyes” and demand substance over spectacle.

He raised the possibility that some actors within the coalition may be sabotaging it from within to guarantee the ruling party’s victory in 2027.
