chelsea-keep-enzo-fernandez-suspended-despite-apology-ahead-of-man-city-clash

Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has confirmed that Enzo Fernández will remain suspended for this weekend’s Premier League clash against Manchester City, despite the midfielder and his agent issuing apologies following recent tensions at the club.

The Argentine international was handed a two-match internal suspension after comments and interviews during the March international break were interpreted as a lack of commitment to Chelsea, including remarks about his admiration for Madrid.

Tensions escalated after Chelsea’s Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain, when Fernández declined to fully commit his future to the club and spoke about his desire to live in Madrid, likening it to his hometown Buenos Aires.

Manager Rosenior responded at the time by stating the midfielder had “crossed a line” and confirming he would miss matches against Port Vale and Manchester City as disciplinary action.

Although Fernández’s agent later revealed that peace talks had taken place and both player and representative issued apologies to the club, Chelsea have opted to uphold the suspension.

Rosenior confirmed that Fernández will not return for the Manchester City fixture, explaining that “obstacles” still remain in resolving the situation between player and club.
