Manchester United snatched a last-gasp 3-2 victory over Burnley at Old Trafford thanks to a 97th-minute penalty from captain Bruno Fernandes.
The match appeared set to end in a 2-2 draw after Burnley twice cancelled out United’s goals. A tug on Amad Diallo in stoppage time prompted a VAR review, resulting in the decisive penalty. Fernandes confidently converted from the spot to secure three points.
United dominated early, taking the lead through an own goal from Josh Cullen. Burnley responded in the 55th minute as Lyle Foster equalised, but Bryan Mbeumo restored United’s advantage two minutes later. Jaidon Anthony then levelled again following a goalmouth scramble after a long throw.
Despite the win, United’s performance was inconsistent, raising further questions about Ruben Amorim’s side following their Carabao Cup exit against Grimsby Town earlier in the week.
