arsenal-advance-as-chelsea-and-man-city-crash-out-in-champions-league-knockout-drama

Arsenal powered into the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals in style, while Chelsea and Manchester City crashed out in dramatic and contrasting fashion in a night of knockout stage upheaval across Europe.

At the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal delivered a composed and clinical performance to secure a 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen, sealing a 3-1 aggregate victory and booking their place in the last eight. Eberechi Eze opened the scoring with a stunning first-half strike, controlling Leandro Trossard’s pass before unleashing a powerful effort into the top corner.

Declan Rice doubled the advantage after the break with another superb finish, driving forward before curling a precise shot into the corner to cap a dominant display. Despite late pressure from Leverkusen, including a close effort denied by David Raya, Mikel Arteta’s side held firm to set up a quarter-final clash with Sporting CP.

In stark contrast, Chelsea endured a humiliating exit, suffering their worst-ever Champions League knockout defeat. The Blues were beaten 3-0 by Paris Saint-Germain on the night, crashing out 8-2 on aggregate in a tie defined by costly defensive errors and missed opportunities.

PSG struck early through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia after Mamadou Sarr failed to deal with a long ball, before Moises Caicedo’s midfield error allowed Achraf Hakimi to set up Bradley Barcola for a second. The French champions added a third through Senny Mayulu, compounding Chelsea’s misery in a one-sided contest.

Chelsea’s night worsened late on when Trevoh Chalobah was forced off with injury, leaving the team to finish with 10 men after exhausting all substitutions, as PSG comfortably saw out the result.

Manchester City also exited the competition after a 2-1 home defeat to Real Madrid, completing a 5-1 aggregate loss. Pep Guardiola’s side saw their hopes collapse following a निर्णiding moment involving captain Bernardo Silva.

Silva was sent off for the first time in his career after handling Vinicius Jr’s goal-bound effort on the line, conceding a penalty that the Brazilian converted to extend Madrid’s lead. Although Erling Haaland briefly restored hope with an equaliser before half-time, City were repeatedly denied by Thibaut Courtois and his replacement Andriy Lunin.

Despite sustained pressure, City failed to mount a comeback, and Vinicius sealed the victory in added time to send the defending champions through.

While Arsenal march on with momentum and belief, the exits of Chelsea and Manchester City underline the unforgiving nature of Champions League football, where errors and moments of brilliance ultimately define success or failure.
