The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the Okura State Constituency bye-election in Kogi State, with its candidate, Hassan Shado, emerging victorious.
Announcing the final results at the Egume collation centre in Dekina Local Government Area, the Returning Officer, Professor Emmanuel Enenche Onome, declared that Shado secured 55,073 votes. His closest rival from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 1,038 votes, while the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate recorded 445 votes.
Arise News learnt that the exercise was characterised by low voter turnout, with opposition parties alleging vote buying, intimidation, and other irregularities.
The bye-election was conducted to fill the vacant Okura Constituency seat following the death of the immediate past Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Enema Paul, in December 2024.
