The All Progressives Congress (APC) has hailed its performance in the Rivers State Local Government Elections, where it won 20 out of the 23 chairmanship seats, while dismissing allegations of foul play from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
In a statement shared by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga on Monday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said: “The All Progressives Congress (APC) expresses its profound appreciation to the good people of Rivers State for their overwhelming support in Saturday’s Local Government Elections, with our great Party winning 20 out of the 23 contested chairmanship seats across the state.”
Morka described the outcome as “yet another unmistakable indication of strong confidence of the people in the APC-led President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and its flagship Renewed Hope Agenda to continue to deliver transformative and people-oriented governance at all levels in our country.”
He commended the efforts of party loyalists and the electoral body. “We commend our Party leaders, members and supporters for working assiduously for this important victory. Our appreciation also goes to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful, transparent and hitch-free election,” he said.
The APC called on the new chairmen to justify the confidence reposed in them. “We urge the newly elected local government officials to work even harder to deliver meaningful governance outcomes for the common good of all,” the statement added.
Turning to Atiku Abubakar’s criticism, the party was categorical in its rejection. “Our great Party categorically rejects the incendiary and highly irresponsible allegations of foul play hurled by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over the Rivers State local government elections,” Morka declared.
“Atiku’s tirade is no more than a smokescreen meant to distract the public from another miserable no-show record of his African Democratic Congress (ADC), and an attempt to stoke tension and strife over the Rivers local government election,” he continued.
The APC insisted that Rivers people would not be swayed. “We trust Rivers people to reject Atiku’s incitement to strife and instability as an unwise counsel of a forlorn serial presidential contender,” it said.
Reaffirming its gratitude, the ruling party concluded: “Again, our profuse gratitude remains with the Rivers state electorate for their highly valued support. Together, we will build a stronger, more united Rivers State that works for the good of all.”
