Chelsea have officially secured the signing of Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United for a reported £40 million ($54 million). The 21-year-old forward, who fell out of favour under Ruben Amorim, has signed a contract at Stamford Bridge running until 2032.
Before the move was publicly confirmed, Garnacho was spotted in the stands at Chelsea’s home clash against Fulham on Saturday, which the Blues won 2-0.
Garnacho expressed his excitement, saying, “It’s an incredible moment for my family and I to join this great club. I can’t wait to get started. I watched the Club World Cup and to join the world champions is special — we’re the best team in the world! It’s amazing to be here and I’m very happy.”
The Argentina international, who had criticised Amorim after being benched in United’s Europa League final against Tottenham in May, had been training separately at Carrington while his future was being finalised.
Garnacho has netted 16 goals in 93 Premier League appearances and is expected to add firepower to Enzo Maresca’s attacking options at Stamford Bridge.
