king-charles-and-queen-camilla-receive-warm-welcome-in-us-as-state-visit-begins

King Charles III and Queen Camilla arrived in the United States on Monday to begin a four-day state visit, marking the first such trip by a British monarch since 2007. The royal couple landed at Joint Base Andrews, where they were received with full ceremonial honours, including a guard of honour and a military band.

The King and Queen were welcomed on the runway by UK ambassador to the US Sir Christian Turner and the White House’s head of protocol, Monica Crowley, as the national anthems of both countries were played. In a symbolic gesture, two young children presented bouquets of flowers to the royal couple before they proceeded along the red carpet and departed the base for Washington.

The visit comes at a pivotal moment in transatlantic relations and is widely seen as one of the most significant diplomatic engagements of King Charles’ reign. Buckingham Palace had confirmed earlier that the programme would proceed largely as planned, following additional security consultations after a recent incident involving a gunman at an event attended by Donald Trump.

Upon arrival at the White House, King Charles and Queen Camilla were greeted by President Trump and Melania Trump. The four posed briefly for photographs before heading inside for a private tea, followed by a garden party with invited guests.

The state visit is expected to include a formal welcome ceremony at the White House and a ceremonial military review, alongside broader engagements aimed at strengthening ties between the two nations. It also continues a longstanding tradition of high-level exchanges, with the last British state visit to the US taking place in 2007, when Queen Elizabeth II visited during the presidency of George W. Bush.

As the visit unfolds, attention will be on how the monarch navigates the diplomatic landscape, with the trip seen as an opportunity to reinforce the enduring relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States.
