The All Progressives Congress has launched a scathing attack on the African Democratic Congress, declaring that the opposition party is solely responsible for its internal crisis and ongoing leadership turmoil.
In a press statement issued in Abuja on April 2, 2026, APC described ADC as “an assembly of Nigeria’s most confused and desperate politicians” and accused it of spreading “rabid conspiracy theories” about alleged interference by the ruling party.
The statement, signed by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, said the ADC’s crisis was self-inflicted and rooted in its failure to adhere to its own constitutional provisions and democratic processes.
“Quite apart from being an assembly of Nigeria’s most confused and desperate politicians, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has distinguished itself as a peddler of rabid conspiracy theories about what the All Progressives Congress (APC) is or is not doing to undermine the party,” the statement read.
APC further described ADC as structurally flawed from inception, stating that the party was “a kamikaze contraption with a ‘follow-come’ self-destructive detonator” that was bound to collapse.
According to the ruling party, the leadership crisis within ADC escalated following the emergence of a faction led by former Senate President David Mark and ex-governor Rauf Aregbesola, whom it accused of unlawfully taking control of the party.
“When its factional leadership under the duo of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola parachuted into the party like thoughtless and planless commandos, and hijacked the party in violent violation of its constitutional stipulations regarding leadership succession, and in disregard of the rule of law, the ADC set its own date with destiny,” APC stated.
The party defended the actions of the Independent National Electoral Commission, saying the commission’s decision to de-recognise the David Mark-led faction was lawful and in line with judicial rulings.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC’s) decision to de-recognize the factional David Mark-led executives in compliance with judgment of court, is valid in law, justified in fact, and consistent with electoral policy and democratic practice,” the statement added.
APC rejected accusations that it was responsible for the opposition party’s internal disputes, describing such claims as “escapist and irresponsible.”
“It is therefore highly escapist and irresponsible for the ADC to blame the APC for its internal woes of which they are the sole architects,” it said.
The ruling party went further to question ADC’s credibility as a viable political platform, arguing that its inability to manage internal affairs disqualifies it from governance.
“A party that cannot fix itself cannot possibly fix Nigeria,” APC said, adding that the ADC was “bereft of ideas and lost in vain desperation for power.”
The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of the administration of President Bola Tinubu, noting that the government remains committed to delivering on its “Renewed Hope Agenda” and strengthening democratic institutions in the country.
