kwankwaso!/obi-support-group-insists-proposed-us-bill-against-kwankwaso-is-politically-motivated

The Kwankwaso/Obi Support Group has condemned a proposed bill reportedly introduced by some United States legislators, describing it as an attempt to undermine the political career of the National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the leader of the group, Abba Sadauki Gwale, alleged that the move to impose visa restrictions on Kwankwaso is politically motivated and aimed at limiting his growing influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the group, the proposal amounts to external interference in Nigeria’s internal political affairs and should be resisted by Nigerians.

Gwale said Kwankwaso has been a vocal critic of the current administration on issues of insecurity, governance and economic development, suggesting that his outspoken stance may have attracted political opposition.

“The timing of this bill is suspicious, coming at a time when Kwankwaso is gaining popularity in Nigeria. It is difficult not to view this as an attempt to undermine his reputation and restrict his influence,” the statement said.

The group warned that if such a bill succeeds, it could create a precedent for foreign actors to influence domestic political participation in Nigeria.

It also questioned the basis of the proposed measure, arguing that there is no concrete evidence linking Kwankwaso to allegations cited in the bill.

The support group urged the international community to respect Nigeria’s sovereignty and allow its democratic institutions to function without external pressure.

It further called for efforts to focus on strengthening institutions and promoting inclusive dialogue rather than targeting individuals.
