Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has arrived in Doha, the capital city of Qatar, for a four-day working visit aimed at advancing the cause of out-of-school children and reforming the Almajiri education system in Nigeria.
She arrived at Doha’s Hamad International Airport on Thursday evening, received warmly as she commenced the official engagements scheduled during her stay. The visit comes at the invitation of Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser Al-Missned, Chairperson of the Qatar Foundation, a global organisation renowned for its initiatives in education, science, and community development.
Her trip seeks to underscore her commitment to finding sustainable solutions to one of Nigeria’s most pressing educational challenges—the large number of out-of-school children, particularly in northern regions.
During the visit, the First Lady will meet with Sheikha Moza, Qatar’s Minister of Social Development, Buthaina Al Nuaimi, and other key stakeholders to explore collaborative strategies and partnerships in education and child development.
Accompanying her on the visit are the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Ahmed, and the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education, Dr Mohammed Sani.
The meetings are expected to open doors for stronger educational cooperation between Nigeria and Qatar, focusing on models that can enhance inclusivity, skill acquisition, and early childhood learning opportunities for marginalised children.
