jonathan,-obi-hold-closed-door-talks-in-abuja-amid-rising-2027-speculation

Former President Goodluck Jonathan and the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, met behind closed doors in Abuja on Thursday, fuelling renewed speculation about possible political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections. The meeting was “fruitful” Obi said on his X handle. He hailed Jonathan as an “elder brother and statesman,” underscoring the former president’s continued influence in national discourse.

He wrote: “Today in Abuja, I met with my very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader, former President Goodluck Jonathan @GEJonathan. We had a fruitful closed-door meeting and discussed the state of our dear nation. -PO.”

It was not immediately clear whether their discussions touched on the 2027 presidential elections

Jonathan, who has remained an important voice in Nigerian politics since leaving office in 2015, has in recent months been courted by various political blocs, particularly within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Although neither Jonathan nor Obi revealed specific details of their discussions, analysts suggest the meeting may mark the beginning of deeper consultations aimed at building a broad coalition ahead of the next election cycle.
