Nigerian cue sports champion Shehu Bamidele has completed a remarkable 120-hour marathon of continuous 8-ball pool, a performance that, if verified, could earn him multiple Guinness World Records.
The historic attempt, which was announced in a press release on Monday, took place at the Silverbird Galleria, Victoria Island, Lagos, and ran from Tuesday, July 2, 2025, to Sunday, July 7, 2025. At approximately 9:30 p.m. local time on Sunday, Bamidele surpassed the current Guinness World Record for the Longest 8-Ball Pool Marathon by an Individual, which stood at 80 hours and 1 second, set by Rene Moors of the Netherlands in 2005.
By reaching a total of 120 hours, Bamidele also surpassed the Longest Singles Marathon Record of 111 hours, achieved by Colin Pilcher and Marc Murray in the UK in 2023. According to the press release, he faced 286 unique opponents during the marathon, a feat submitted for consideration in a new Guinness World Records category: the Most People Played in a Continuous 8-Ball Pool Marathon.
The attempt strictly followed Guinness World Records’ guidelines, including structured rest breaks, four-hour witness rotations, certified scorekeeping, and complete documentation. Verification of the records now lies with Guinness World Records, whose process involves a thorough review of all submitted evidence.
Reflecting on his achievement after the marathon, Bamidele expressed his pride and gratitude, saying, “This was a test of endurance and spirit. While we await Guinness World Records’ verification, I am proud of what we achieved together as a team and as a country. I dedicate this effort to Nigeria and to everyone who believed in this dream.”
The challenge was made possible through the support of several sponsors, including GLOBUS Bank, AVON Medical, the DUNKIT and TRUE PATRIOT fashion brands, Sights & Crafts, CHRONE, i-Fitness, ZTL Liquids Transfer Limited, YOLO Island, Event Porte, Oxford Blue, Snooker Z, PEP, and Capital Y Entertainment.
If certified, Shehu Bamidele’s feat will be recorded as one of the most remarkable endurance achievements in cue sports, placing Nigeria firmly on the global sporting stage.
