Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is set to leave Old Trafford for a loan spell at Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirming the deal as a “done deal” on X (formerly Twitter).
Onana, who joined United from Inter Milan, endured a challenging spell at the club despite receiving backing from former manager Erik ten Hag. However, new boss Ruben Amorim has opted for a different approach, favouring Turkish goalkeeper Altay Bayindir towards the end of last season and making new signing Senne Lammens his first-choice shot-stopper.
According to Romano, all contracts have been signed on Onana’s end, with the player now awaiting Trabzonspor’s final approval before travelling to Turkey next week to complete the move. United approved the deal on Saturday, and reports indicate that there is no loan fee or buy option included.
Onana made 51 appearances in his debut season at Old Trafford, featuring in every Champions League game as United exited in the group stages. He played a further 50 matches last season, but inconsistent performances led to increasing speculation over his future during the summer transfer window.
Trabzonspor, runners-up in the Turkish Cup last season, have started the new Super Lig campaign strongly with three wins from three. Onana will be hoping to make an immediate impact as the club pushes for their eighth league title.
