inec:-over-2.5-million-nigerians-registered-online-for-cvr-in-two-weeks

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that 2,532,062 Nigerians pre-registered online for the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise within just two weeks.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information & Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, stated on Tuesday that these figures were recorded via the Commission’s dedicated CVR portal. He explained that the online pre-registration option, introduced in 2021, allows Nigerians to begin the registration process from anywhere, 24 hours a day, including weekends.

However, Olumekun emphasised that online pre-registration alone is not sufficient. All registrants must appear physically at any of the Commission’s 811 state and local government offices nationwide to capture fingerprints and facial biometric details to complete the process.

“The exercise, which commenced on Monday, 18th August 2025, is now in its second week. As of Sunday, 31st August 2025, a total of 2,532,062 Nigerians had pre-registered online,” Olumekun said, providing a breakdown: 1,218,482 (48.12%) were male and 1,313,580 (51.88%) female. The majority, 1,602,484 (63.29%), were aged 18–34, while 647,528 (25.57%) were students.

He added that INEC is aware that some Nigerians lack online access or prefer in-person registration. Consequently, staff have been deployed to assist eligible citizens at registration centres across the country, which operate from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

“In-person registration commenced on Monday, 25th August 2025. By Friday, 29th August 2025, 72,274 citizens had either completed pre-registration or registered afresh, comprising 35,622 (49.29%) males and 36,652 (50.71%) females. Among them, 54,718 (75.71%) were aged 18–34, and 30,953 (42.83%) were students,” Olumekun noted.

Graphic details of registrants by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability at the end of Week Two of online and Week One of in-person registration have been uploaded to INEC’s website and official platforms for public information.

The Commission continues to encourage all eligible Nigerians to complete registration in-person at designated centres to ensure full validation of their voter records.
