apc-hits-back-at-pdp-governors,-says-opposition-facing-doom-in-2027

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed claims by governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the ruling party faces defeat in the 2027 general election, describing the opposition’s statement as a projection of its own “doomed fate.”

APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, in a statement on Monday, said it was “laughable” that leaders of a party in “crisis and decline” would accuse others of lacking vision.

“The PDP has since collapsed and stands rejected by Nigerians,” Morka said. “Rather than focus on rescuing their terminally ill party, the governors are wasting time hurling baseless accusations against the APC.”

The PDP governors had met in Zamfara on August 23, after which they issued a communique branding the APC as a party “without vision or direction” and one that faces imminent rejection in the next election.

Morka countered that the APC’s recent victories in by-elections were evidence that President Bola Tinubu’s policies are resonating with Nigerians and have strengthened public confidence in the ruling party.

“It is infantile and irresponsible for PDP governors to hail democracy where they won and condemn it where they lost,” he said. “Victories and defeats in elections cannot become the measure of credibility in our democratic process.”

He noted that the APC had won elections even in states controlled by the opposition, including Zamfara, Adamawa and Kano, despite what he alleged was violence sponsored by opposition-controlled states.

“These inept governors are in no position to dictate to Nigerians how to vote in 2027,” Morka said. “The PDP has offered no credible policies in the last three election cycles, and Nigerians have handed it repeated verdicts of failure. Wallowing in denial of the party’s expired political vitality and relevance is a reckless betrayal by PDP Governors of their highly disillusioned members still hanging hopelessly on straws of hope for an elusive miracle to turn the tide for their party.”

He added that opposition politics should go beyond “finger pointing at the APC” to providing credible alternatives, stressing that PDP governors have been among the “biggest beneficiaries of Tinubu’s economic reforms.”

“Federal allocation to states has more than doubled under this administration, with N2 trillion shared as of July 2025, the highest in history,” Morka said. “Yet PDP governors continue to fail their citizens with poor governance.”

The APC spokesman said Nigeria would not return to “the dark days of PDP’s misrule” when many states were unable to pay salaries.

“President Tinubu has set the country on a path of prosperity and will not be distracted by PDP’s antics,” he said. “Nigerians know the party that is working for their future, and they will not be deceived by opposition leaders who cannot manage their own states.”

Morka urged Nigerians to ignore what he described as the PDP’s “empty rhetoric” and continue to support the Tinubu administration.
