The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a stern warning to party members who have publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing such actions as violations of the party’s constitution.
In a statement released, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the party views these endorsements as acts of “anti-party activities” that threaten the stability and cohesion of the PDP.
“Of serious concern is the persistent public media outbursts against our Party by some prominent members whose actions and utterances — including their public declaration of support and willingness to work for the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 Presidential election — in violation of the provision of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) constitute a serious threat to the stability and sustenance of our Party,” Ologunagba stated.
The development comes amid rising internal tensions following the open support for President Tinubu’s second-term bid by several PDP figures, including Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT); Ayodele Fayose, former Governor of Ekiti State; and members of the PDP Osun State caucus.
Citing Section 10(6) of the PDP Constitution, Ologunagba emphasized that no member of the party is permitted to undermine its interests or activities.
“Such anti-party activities have continued to impact negatively on the PDP, leading to division, disaffection and heavy hemorrhaging of members, with the capacity to diminish our Party’s electoral fortune if not immediately checked,” he said.
In response to these concerns, the NWC has moved to formally caution those involved, warning that further breaches will attract severe consequences.
“In light of the foregoing and the urgency of protecting and preserving the existence of our Party and its electoral fortune, the NWC, pursuant to the provisions of Section 59(1) of the PDP Constitution, hereby issues a strong reprimand against such anti-party activities and cautions those involved to retrace their steps or face stiffer sanctions as provided in the PDP Constitution,” Ologunagba declared.
The PDP spokesperson concluded by urging party members to remain steadfast and united as the party prepares for its national convention scheduled for November 2025.
“All members must remain loyal and focused, and continue to work assiduously towards the success of the Party at the upcoming National Convention,” he added.
