President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday hosted Nigeria’s Super Falcons at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, following their stunning triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The players and coaching crew, who arrived in coaster buses shortly before 4:36 pm, were warmly received at the Aso Rock forecourt by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, before meeting with the president.
The Super Falcons were crowned African champions for a record 10th time on Saturday after mounting a dramatic comeback to defeat hosts Morocco 3–2 in the final. The team overturned a 2–0 half-time deficit, showcasing grit and brilliance to clinch the title on Moroccan soil.
In a post-match video call from the State House on Saturday night, President Tinubu lauded the team’s resilience and celebrated Rasheedat Ajibade, the team captain and tournament’s Most Valuable Player, for her leadership and outstanding performance.
The 2025 win marks a continuation of Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football. The Super Falcons have now won four WAFCON titles in the last decade, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2024, bringing their overall total to 10 championships, the most by any African nation in women’s football.
