Political commentator and social media influencer, Reno Omokri, has dismissed the emerging ADC opposition alliance as a “losers’ convention”, arguing that it lacks structure, credibility, and the political clout to challenge the ruling APC in 2027.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE NEWS on Wednesday, Omokri rejected claims that the coalition, which includes former presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, poses a real threat. “These are just malcontents… disgruntled people… losers coming together, like I said, to form a losers’ convention,” he said.
He ridiculed the suggestion that the coalition resembles the 2013 merger that gave birth to the APC. “The ADC is nothing like the APC. When the APC came into power, the APC had governors… They had a sitting member of the House of Reps, a speaker… This party doesn’t have that,” Omokri stated.
He also attacked the political relevance of some of the coalition’s leading figures. “How many of them control their states? None of them. Nasir El-Rufai’s own son was at the venue where President Bola Tinubu was endorsed for a second term. If you cannot convince your own first son to support you, how do you think you can convince Nigeria?” he asked.
On Peter Obi’s involvement, Omokri questioned his strategic clarity, saying, “Peter Obi is having problems in the Labour Party. He doesn’t know if he has the clout to pull off what he pulled off in 2023… He says that he’s still a member of the Labour Party.”
He further dismissed claims that the coalition could have defeated Tinubu in 2023 had they united earlier. “There is no coalition. What you’re just seeing is egos, different egos,” Omokri insisted, adding, “I have a good idea who’s likely going to get the ticket. It’s likely going to go to a northerner.”
Omokri also defended President Tinubu’s performance, saying the APC under Tinubu is delivering better economic results than during Buhari’s tenure. “For the first time, Nigeria has a $14.1 billion trade surplus… Our GDP is growing at 3.84%… States are getting at least double what they used to get under Buhari,” he said.
On the broader political landscape, Omokri rejected the notion that Nigeria is drifting toward a one-party state. “More people are joining the APC because of the performance of President Bola Tinubu… That is performance, whether you like it or not,” he argued.
He also took a jab at former SGF Boss Mustapha’s comments crediting Buhari’s solo popularity for his 2015 victory. “Boss Mustapha was just being silly… Without Bola Tinubu, Nigeria’s history would have not been the same. President Jonathan would have won that election and General Buhari would have just been… a tiny dot, like he likes to say about the southeast, a dot in a circle.”
Omokri concluded by defending his financial independence and Nigerian-made attire. “Everything I’m wearing from head to toe is made in Nigeria… That’s the only way we’re going to build our economy.”
