mbappe-accuses-psg-of-moral-harassment,-seeks-55m-in-unpaid-wages

Kylian Mbappé has filed a legal complaint accusing Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) of moral harassment, the Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed Thursday. The French striker, who joined Real Madrid this summer, claims the Ligue 1 club owes him €55 million ($61 million) in unpaid wages and subjected him to unfair treatment during his final season.

Central to Mbappé’s complaint is PSG’s decision to exclude him from first-team activities known in France as “lofting” after he refused to extend his contract in 2023. The practice involves sidelining players for disciplinary, administrative, or sporting reasons, and Mbappé alleges it was used as retaliation.

The breakdown in the relationship began when Mbappé, who scored a record 256 goals for PSG, declined to activate a contract extension beyond 2024, despite having signed a high-profile deal in 2022 that was presented to fans as lasting until 2025. PSG, concerned about losing him for free, attempted to sell him and even excluded him from a preseason tour and the opening game of the 2023–24 season.

Although he eventually returned to the squad after internal talks, Mbappé’s camp claims the club’s actions amounted to harassment.

Tensions with fans also marred his final appearances, with some supporters booing him at the Parc des Princes.

PSG had reportedly hoped to retain him with the most lucrative deal in club history, but Mbappé was said to be frustrated by unfulfilled promisesparticularly around key signings.

Meanwhile, Mbappé declined a €300 million transfer to Saudi club Al Hilal, choosing instead to see out his contract before making a high-profile free move to Real Madrid. His legal team signaled in April that formal action against PSG was forthcoming.

In a separate development, Manchester City topped Group G in the Club World Cup with a 5–2 win over Juventus, while Real Madrid could seal their group later Thursday with a win over RB Salzburg.
